In March 2016, ECIA, representing Dubuque, Delaware, Cedar, Clinton and Jackson Counties, was selected as an Iowa Initiative for Sustainable Communities (IISC) partner. The IISC program matches communities across Iowa with University of Iowa classes (upperclassmen and graduate) who, with the help of faculty advisors, complete projects in selected communities to advance quality of life. This program offers communities with assistance from eager and innovative students for projects that may not otherwise be completed, while providing valuable hands-on experience for the students. Approximately 15 projects will be completed per academic year. IISC estimates that the communities will receive 40,000 hours or more of work (estimated total value of $250,000).
